Solar water heating solutions for Kenya
Solar water heating solutions Kenya

Solar water heating is the process through which sunlight is used to heat water using solar thermal collectors. The design and cost of installation varies widely depending on latitudes and weather. In Solar water heating (SWH) system, collectors heats water either directly or through light concentrating mirrors.

The system mostly includes glass-topped insulated box with a flat solar absorber made of sheet metal connected to dark-coloured copper pipes (heat exchanger) or sometimes evacuated glass cylinder with metallic tubes. The collected heat is stored in a hot water tank, which is considerably large because the collected water is not always very hot.

Solar water heating (SWH) is an efficient way of cutting down on electric bills. Water heating mostly constitutes over 60 percent of domestic electricity consumption. Installation of solar water heating systems is also a government directive to industrial and domestic electric consumers that uses more than 100 litres of heated water every day.

Most regions in Kenya and Africa receives sufficient sunlight for most months of the year, making installation of considerably cheaper solar water heating solutions a viable investment.

Mak1 Engineers offers custom solar water heating solutions for both industrial and domestic customers. We perform detailed analyses before any installations, considering weather patterns, structural designs and hot water demands. Among others, we offer the following solar water heating installation services;

  • Industrial water heating – applicable for commercial entities
  • Direct and indirect solar water heating- mostly for residential setups – 150, 200 and 300 litres installations.
  • Split centralized solar heating – applicable for tall residential buildings
